Basketball Essentials - Passing
For this post, I am going to highlight passing, and its role in the game of basketball. Passing requires great accuracy, whether you're making a penetrating pass into the heart of the defense or completing a pass to an open teammate's hands for a shot. Players that can throw on-target passes lower the risk of turnovers and improve shooting percentages. There are many different ways to improve your ability to pass, and it can usually depend on the type of player you are. However, this is one drill that benefits anyone and everyone.
Setup:
Setup:
- Use two players and one basketball
- Both players stand on opposite sides of the lane, facing each other. You should start with the ball
Execution:
- Your partner should give you a random passing target with the dominant hand and should indicate which type of pass you will make (bounce pass, lob pass, etc.).
- You should make an on-target pass and hit your partner's target hand.
- Perform and repeat this drill for one minute.
Both players should keep their eyes on the target and their elbows behind the basketball to ensure the pass in on-target.
What type of drills or practices do you use to help with passing? Do you have any other efficient techniques or tips? Feel free to comment them.
